La Naturaleza
I’ve been finding it fun to write little poems about my surroundings or my safe places when I need a moment to ground myself. Doing so allows me to turn on my creative mind and become present with myself and with my surroundings. If I am feeling a bit uneasy or stressed out I will take a moment to identify my surroundings, connecting to all of my senses. I like to write what I see, smell, hear, and taste, reminding myself of my present state and allowing myself to return to that moment. Sometimes all I have and need are a few words, other times my poems become pieces of writing that I am proud of. Writing a poem has no rules and infinite opportunities. It comforts me to know that I can write two words or a whole page and makes writing less intimidating.
La Naturaleza
I climb the mountains that stand beyond me
intimidated by their beauty and size but drawn to the magic they hold
I walk the deepest valleys, looking up to see the sides that have been carved out through years of slight tectonic shifts
I smell the salt of the sea as I sit upon my board
I watch the underside of soaring wings flying bye as I lie on the bare earth floor
I feel the brisk air brushing past my skin when I cruise down a hill
I sit in peace
Present of where I am and what I am doing
Allowing my mind to settle and my heart to open
At peace with myself and grateful for all the universe has to offer
Magic in the World:
There is magic in this majestic world. From the deepest valleys to the highest mountain tops. We feel it through our bodies, in our minds, and everywhere around. Our environment impacts us more than anything else. Have you noticed the similarities between people from the same places ? Have you noticed the human need for nature? When I step outside I feel it through my body. I suddenly feel lighter and a smile wipes across my face. My skin, my brain, my heart, and my soul needs the sun. I need the trees and the oxygen they provide. The snow and the water from the mountain tops. The salt from the ocean and the misteriosity of the sky. I need my feet to touch soil and my body to be immersed in the sea. I need to listen to the sounds and messages within nature. Once we can disconnect is when we can connect. Is when we can receive downloads from the universe. Only then can we feel present and free. Only then can we understand the divine and see the undivine. The universe holds deep secrets. The trees whisper tunes of freedom and the birds sing songs of joy. Beyond the earth exists the divine infinite universe. Looking up at the stars, I am curious as to what could possibly be up there. I may never know what it is but I do know that life exists. I challenge you to close your eyes, inhale the scent of what surrounds you. Tilt your head back and look up to the sky to ponder what could be beyond you. Exhale and feel the ground beneath you and remember that you are here now. Sitting on this planet. ALIVE. Inhale and feel the energy flow through your body and exhale allowing it to once again enter the ground where it originated. Gain appreciation for your surroundings and remember all this planet has given to you.
A Janela :
I sit in bed gazing out the window that lies beyond me
I see the little people going about their days
Watching from a distance, everything seems so small
Everything seems to matter less from up here
I wonder why the person is screaming into their phone
I watch the stressed tourists cuss at their maps, angry that they cannot find their way to the praça
none of this matters as I watch from my window
I watch as if I am the spectator of a movie and the people are just actors playing their roles
I see cars drive by and people walking hand in hand
I hear the noise of the famous lisbon street car and the bustling ring of downtown Baixa
I smell the air which has a bit of a city stench and I feel the wind brush by my face
I feel calm and a bit tired from the day
Looking over Baixa impressed with the city but glad I am up here away from the serene chaos
